SADDLERS SIGN CHANDLER HALLWOOD

11 August 2016

Teenage Goalkeeper joins the club...

WALSALL Football Club can today confirm the signing of 18-year-old Goalkeeper Chandler Hallwood.

The teenager signs for the Saddlers on non-contract terms after spending a number of weeks training with the squad under the watchful eye of First Team Coach Neil Cutler.

Hallwood completed his two-year scholarship at League One rivals Bradford City before being released at the end of the 2015/16 campaign.

Cutler has been working with the young stopper at the clubs Essington training ground and has been impressed with the clubs latest addition.

“I first saw him play against our under 21s for Bradford at end of last season,” he explained. “I liked what I saw and you could tell that he had a bit about him.

“He’s kicks the ball well, has a calmness in possession and possesses a good mix of distribution skills.

“So he has the traits that meet our philosophy. We can develop him here and it’s now about how quickly he can learn and progress to bring him in line with the others.

“He’s already showing signs of that development but it doesn’t happen overnight.

“It’s important we have three goalkeepers, especially with one out on loan and another who’s going to be on international duty throughout the season. But it’s also about having a development goalkeeper who we feel has a chance of coming through and progressing.”

Hallwood has been allocated the squad number 27 for the 2015/16 season.
