Combative midfielder signs twelve-month contract with the club...WALSALL Football Club are delighted to announce that Isaiah Osbourne has signed a new one-year deal with the club.
The 28-year old has impressed Head Coach Jon Whitney with a number of commanding displays through pre-season and has extended his stay at the Bank's for another 12-months.
Birmingham-born Osbourne signed for the Saddlers a year ago but suffered a knee injury just weeks into the season. It marked the start of a frustrating spell for the combative midfielder who worked tirelessly with the clubs medical staff throughout the 2015/16 season.
Having proved his fitness over the summer, Head Coach Jon Whitney is keen for Osbourne to put last term behind him and to make up for lost time.
"He gives us a physical presence but he’s much more than that," Whitney explained. "It’s his application and his work ethic and he’s a very popular member of the group.
"I see him as a leader amongst men and he’ll be an important player both on and off the pitch for us.
"He fits perfectly into the environment that we’re trying to create at the club.
"I’ve spent a long time with him over the past year and he’s been through some tough days in and out of hospital with his injury. But together we saw a chink of light and he’s come a long way because of how hard he works and his application.
"He’s proven himself and his fitness and committed himself to the club for a month during pre-season.
"Now it’s up to me to show my loyalty and commitment and that’s why he’s earned a one-year contract."
The former Aston Villa man made 27 appearances for Scunthorpe two seasons ago but didn't feature against the Saddlers during his time with the Iron.
Having come through the ranks at Villa Park, Osbourne was handed his Premier League debut by Martin O'Neil in April 2006.
After enjoying successful loan spells at Nottingham Forest, Middlesbrough and Sheffield Wednesday, he made the move north of the boarder, signing a two-and-a-half year deal with Hibernian in 2011.
The talented midfielder returned to English football with Blackpool the following summer, where he made 52 appearances during his two seasons at Bloomfield Road.
He initially joined Scunthorpe on a three-month deal in October 2014 but impressed enough to extend his stay to the end of the season before moving to the Banks's in the summer of 2015.
Osbourne will wear the number 14 and is eligible for Saturday's Sky Bet League One opener with AFC Wimbledon (3.00pm kick-off).
