WHITNEY: WE WILL 'FIGHT TO THE END'

26 April 2016

Boss wants Walsall to bounce back against Shrewsbury tonight...

Head coach Jon Whitney insists Walsall will “fight to the end” in their pursuit of automatic promotion from League One.

The Saddlers’ top-two hopes were dealt a blow after Saturday’s resounding 4-0 defeat at Bradford.

The result means Walsall are six points behind second-placed Burton heading into tonight’s rearranged match against near-neighbours Shrewsbury – our game in hand.

And Whitney admits his side must bounce back this evening in order to keep our automatic promotion dreams alive.

"When you have three games left, every game is a must win,” said Whitney. "With the defeat at Bradford it's even more important because we have to bounce back.

"We have to bounce back because suddenly it'll be three points (off Burton) with two left and there will be ups and downs.

"I'm definitely pleased we are playing tonight. It's one of those where you don't want a week after that type of performance.

"Through adversity, you have the chance to improve and get stronger. I always do, with every bad experience in my life I have got stronger and I will get stronger for this.

"I am not backing down from anything, I will fight to the end and as long as my players are with me we will have a chance."
