Ahead of this weekend’s match against Oldham, we take a look back at the Saddlers’ last five matches against the Latics…8th August 2015 – Walsall 1-1 Oldham – League One
Substitute Jonathan Forte’s late equaliser denied Walsall an opening-day win at home to Oldham. Romaine Sawyers fired the Saddlers ahead on eight minutes with a powerful right-footed strike into the top corner. Jordan Cook and Tom Bradshaw went close to doubling Walsall’s lead but the Latics levelled seven minutes from time, when Forte volleyed home Jake Cassidy’s inviting cross.
25th April 2015 – Walsall 2-0 Oldham – League One
Tom Bradshaw scored his 19th and 20th goals of the season as Walsall saw off Oldham in their final home fixture of the 2014/15 campaign. The Saddlers’ top scorer struck twice in a devastating six-minute first-half spell. First, he coolly dinked Latics keeper Joel Coleman after latching onto Kieron Morris’ pass, before then converting a penalty to make it 2-0 following a foul on Mal Benning.
11th October 2014 – Oldham 2-1 Walsall – League One
Walsall slipped to their first defeat in five league and cup matches after relinquishing a one-goal lead to lose at Oldham. Jordan Cook’s smart finish gave the Saddlers an early advantage, but Conor Wilkinson’s deflected drive drew Oldham level just past the half-hour mark. Mike Jones netted the hosts’ winner 15 minutes from time, with a stunning 25-yard strike which cannoned in off the bar.
14th January 2014 – Walsall 1-0 Oldham – League One
Walsall keeper Richard O’Donnell saved a last-gasp Adam Rooney penalty as the Saddlers edged past Oldham to move into the League One play-off places. Both teams rattled the woodwork either side of half-time, but Sam Mantom broke the deadlock on 65 minutes when he fired a crisp low drive into the corner. The Latics could have snatched a point late on, but O’Donnell superbly saved Rooney’s stoppage-time spot-kick.
10th August 2013 – Oldham 0-1 Walsall – League One
James Baxendale’s first-half strike preserved Walsall’s 100% start to the 2013/14 season. The only goal came on 25 minutes, when Adam Chambers’ right-wing cross ran through for Baxendale to lash home from 12 yards. Oldham pushed for an equaliser, with James Tarkowski seeing two goalbound efforts blocked and Sidney Schmeltz blazing wastefully over, but Walsall held on.
