WARD PLEASED WITH YOUNGSTERS APPLICATION

Saddlers tame the Dragons in hard-fought Wrexham win...

PROFESSIONAL Development Coach, John Ward has praised his side’s tenacious attitude after the development squad secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Wrexham.

Ward once again utilised the fixture to field a relatively young side with Jordan Murphy, Amadou Bakayoko and Kyle Rowley providing the experience at either end of the pitch.

Though it was Jordan Sangha who scored the decisive goal on the hour mark after a much improved second half performance from the Saddlers.

“There wasn’t much between the two sides at the break,” admitted Ward. “It was a tight game and they played very deep.

“We had a fair amount of the ball and kept hold of possession without worrying their keeper.

“There were only a couple of instances where we managed to get a shot off which was disappointing but the players certainly stepped up their efforts after half time.

“We continued to retain possession but there was more of a threat going forward and at times we looked dangerous in and around the final third.

“The goal came as a result of a good spell. It broke to Jordan six-yards out and he manages to beat the goalkeeper. We pressed them back and forced the chance so I was pleased with that aspect.

“It was one of those games which I told the players, you’ll have a lot of those where it’s untidy and scrappy but we got the goal and came away with the result.

“Our response after half-time was encouraging, the players readjusted and I was pleased with their attitude. We’ll keep working on the quality aspect of our game but we are heading in the right direction that’s for sure."

STARTING XI: Jezeph, J.Smith (Cockerill-Mollett), R.Smith, Roberts, Rowley, Sangha, Kouhyar (King), Cela, Murphy, Bakayoko, Owen (Oliver)

The Development Squad are next in action on November 10th when they travel to Bradford City.
