2014/15 Season

1st February 2015 – Walsall 1-1 Gillingham – League One
Ashley Grimes scored his first goal in Walsall colours to earn the Saddlers a point against managerless Gillingham. Walsall dominated the first-half but fell behind on 69 minutes when Bradley Dack calmly finished past Richard O’Donnell. Grimes drilled home Walsall’s leveller five minutes later and Romaine Sawyers wasted a good opportunity to win the match late on.
Saddlers team:
O’Donnell, Purkiss, Taylor, Downing, J Chambers (O’Connor 46’), A Chambers, R Sawyers, Cain, Forde, Bradshaw (Grimes 60’), Cook.
Subs not used: MacGillivray, Henry, Baxendale, Flanagan, Murphy.


20th September 2014 – Gillingham 0-0 Walsall – League One
Walsall responded to a heavy defeat at Rochdale by picking up a hard-fought point at the Priestfield Stadium. The Saddlers, who lost 4-0 against the Dale, went closest to finding a winner when Ashley Grimes sliced wide from close range. James Baxendale also headed wide in a game of few chances. It was Walsall’s fourth goalless draw of the season.

2013/14 Season

21st April 2014 - Walsall 1-1 Gillingham – League One

Cody McDonald scored his 16th goal of a prolific season to rescue a point for the Gills. Febian Brandy put Walsall ahead shortly after half-time, and Craig Westcarr went close to making it 2-0 when his 25-yard drive struck the post. But the Saddlers had to settle for a draw as McDonald lashed home from Adebayo Akinfenwa’s lay off with six minutes remaining.
Saddlers team:O’Donnell, Butler, Downing, Benning, J Chambers, A Chambers, Mantom, Lalkovic, Sawyers (Ngoo 75’), Westcarr, Brandy (Bakayoko 89’).

29th December 2013 – Gillingham 2-2 Walsall – League One
An injury-time equaliser from Cody McDonald denied Walsall victory. The ex-Coventry striker put the hosts ahead with a stunning overhead kick just 21 seconds into the second-half, but Romaine Sawyers levelled on the hour-mark. Julian Gray’s 90th-minute volley looked to have won it for the Saddlers, only for McDonald to equalise in the second minute of added time.

2009/10 Season

30th January 2010 – Gillingham 0-0 Walsall – League One
Mid-table Walsall played out a goalless draw at relegation-threatened Gillingham. Simeon Jackson spurned several good chances on his 100th Gills appearance, while Jack Payne, Andy Barcham and Mark Bentley also threatened for the hosts. Clayton McDonald went closest for the Saddlers, who stayed 13th in League One.
Saddlers team:Ince, Weston, Smith, Bradley (Taundry 67’), McDonald, Mattis, Till (Nicholls 76’), Vincent, Richards, Deeney, Byfield.
Subs not used: Gilmartin, Sansara, Westlake, O’Keefe, Parkin.


29th August 2009 – Walsall 0-0 Gillingham – League One
Chances were at a premium in a dour scoreless encounter. Gillingham, who won promotion from League Two the previous season, had Mark McCammon’s early goal disallowed for a handball offence. Steve Jones tested visiting keeper Simon Royce and Sam Parkin curled wide but Walsall were unable to find a winner.
