Sam Hird’s late header gave play-off chasing Chesterfield a hard-fought win. The former Doncaster defender rose highest to head home Jimmy Ryan’s corner at the far post with just four minutes remaining. James Chambers went closest for the Saddlers when his looping header was tipped onto the bar by Spireites stopper Tommy Lee.

Tom Bradshaw scored the only goal as Walsall climbed out of the relegation zone with victory over Paul Cook’s Chesterfield. The striker, who was making his return from a hamstring injury, lifted a left-footed shot over keeper Tommy Lee for his sixth goal of the season on 61 minutes. Sam Clucas and Gary Roberts each threatened for Chesterfield late on.

7th April 2012 - Walsall 3-2 Chesterfield – League One
Emmanuel Ledesma’s first-half brace helped Walsall seal a vital victory over rock-bottom Chesterfield to move four points clear of the relegation zone. Franck Moussa’s header put the Spireites in front after six minutes but Ledesma’s well-taken double gave the hosts a half-time lead. A close-range finish from Mark Randall restored parity, only for Sam Mantom to score Walsall’s winner with a low drive on 58 minutes.

17th December 2011 – Chesterfield 1-1 Walsall – League One
Veteran striker Jack Lester scored a last-minute equaliser to rescue a precious point for Chesterfield and deny Walsall their first victory in 12 competitive matches. Alex Nicholls’ 29th-minute strike looked to have sealed all three points for the visitors, only for Lester to fire home the Spireties’s late leveller. The result left Walsall a point from safety in 21st position, while Chesterfield stayed bottom.

31st August 2010 – Walsall 1-2 Chesterfield - JPT
Walsall were knocked out of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy at the first round stage by League Two Chesterfield. John Sheridan’s Spireites opened the scoring through Jordan Bowery’s early header. Reuben Reid volleyed Walsall level before Dean Morgan fired past goalkeeper Jimmy Walker on 33 minutes to seal a cup upset.
