SADDLERS TO VISIT STRATFORD IN BIRMINGHAM SENIOR CUP

4 November 2015

Walsall draw Southern Football League side in second round...

SOUTHERN Football League Premier Division side Stratford Town will play hosts to the Saddlers in the second round of the Birmingham Senior Cup on Wednesday 25th November (7.45pm kickoff).

Richard O’Kelly and John Ward guided their young side past Rugby Town last month after a dramatic penalty shoot-out and have been rewarded with a trip to the DCS Stadium.

Stratford were due to play a game against Cirencester 24 hours earlier with that game dedicated to raising funds for Macmillan. Because this game supersedes their League fixture, we have decided to donate our share of the Gate Receipts to the worthwhile cause. We encourage as many Walsall supporters to attend and boost the coffers.

Stratford recorded a memorable 2-1 win over Coventry City in their first round tie thanks to goals from Edwin Ahenkorah and Michael McGrath.

The Town currently sit 19th in the Southern League Prem, just two points above the relegation zone having won five of their fifteen games this term.

Former Walsall youngster, Sam Adkins is likely to line up for the non-league side. The 23 year-old made two first team appearances under then Saddlers Manager Chris Hutchings between January 2009 and February 2010.

The Saddlers have never won the competition but have reached the final on two occasions, missing out on silverware to Coventry City in 2007 and Birmingham City in 2000.

The date of our away trip to Stratford Town will be announced in the coming days.
