FA CUP: WALSALL'S RECENT FIRST ROUND TIES

5 November 2015

Walsall's last first round win came against Shrewsbury in 2013...

2014/15 SEASON

8th November 2014 – Walsall 2-2 Shrewsbury
Tom Bradshaw bagged a brace against his former club as Walsall twice came from behind to force a replay. Mark Ellis’ early opener was cancelled out by Bradshaw’s 56th-minute leveller, but James Collins’ long-range strike restored the Shrews’ advantage. But Bradshaw rescued a dramatic draw when he fired a right-footed shot past visiting custodian Mark Halstead in the final minute of normal time.

18th November 2014 – Shrewsbury 1-0 Walsall - Replay
Liam Lawrence’s sublime second-half strike booked Shrewsbury’s place in round two. The Shrews captain fired a superb first-time shot into the top corner on 53 minutes to settle a tight affair. Saddlers skipper Adam Chambers was sent off late on for a lunge on Nathaniel Knight-Percival, although the red card was later rescinded. Shrewsbury’s reward was a trip to Preston.

2013/14 SEASON
9th November 2013 – Walsall 3-0 Shrewsbury

Craig Westcarr scored two and created another as Walsall eased into the next round. The former Nottingham Forest forward set us on our way when he poked home after 29 minutes. He doubled Walsall’s lead on the hour-mark and teed up Romaine Sawyers to convert our third goal from 25 yards. The Saddlers were knocked out by Leyton Orient in round two.

2012/13 SEASON

3rd November 2012 – Lincoln 1-1 Walsall
George Bowerman’s late leveller spared Walsall’s blushes at non-league Lincoln. Jamie Taylor’s delightful chip on the stroke of half-time looked to have secured victory for the Imps, who also struck the bar through Alan Power. But Bowerman headed home from Richard Taundry’s throw to earn the Saddlers a replay.

13th November 2012 – Walsall 2-3 Lincoln – Replay
An extra-time brace from substitute Vadaine Oliver gave Lincoln a shock replay win. Alan Power slotted the Imps ahead shortly after the break but Richard Taundry’s late equaliser forced extra-time. Oliver headed Lincoln back in front and then capitalised on a defensive error to make it 3-1. Jamie Paterson’s last-minute free-kick for Walsall proved only a consolation.

12th November 2011 – Exeter 1-1 Walsall

2011/12 SEASON

David Noble’s 94th-minute equaliser earned Exeter a first-round replay. The Saddlers made the breakthrough on 21 minutes when Mark Wilson’s deflected free-kick wrong-footed home keeper Lenny Pidgeley. Exeter pushed for a leveller, with Walsall stopper David Grof producing several fine saves. And the visitors’ resistance was broken deep in added time, Noble drilling a low 25-yard strike into the bottom corner.

23rd November 2011 – Walsall 3-2 Exeter
George Bowerman’s extra-time winner booked Walsall’s place in round two. Exeter took a first-half lead through Richard Logan, but two goals in six second-half minutes from Jon Macken and Alex Nicholls swung the tie in Walsall’s favour. Elliott Frear’s deflected shot made it 2-2, but substitute Bowerman clinched victory in the 98th minute. Walsall were beaten on penalties by Dagenham in the next round.
