Saddlers' Legend to co-commentate at Wembley....

WE’RE delighted to be able to call upon a Walsall FC Legend to co-commentate on our first-ever Wembley appearance for Saddlers Player.

James Walker was part of the team that graced the Millennium Stadium in 2001 and was a member of the Peterborough United backroom staff as they lifted the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy last season.

He will join Dale Moon to provide kick-by-kick coverage and expert analysis of the clash with Bristol City for our Saddlers Player subscribers.

“I would absolutely love to be out there playing,” said Wacka. “Its occasions like this that you want to be involved in and I am really pleased that the club has asked me back to do the commentary.

“I would have been attending the game as a fan anyway, so it’s great to have this involvement and I am looking forward to it.

“I’m buzzing for everyone behind-the-scenes at the club and the fans. To be backed by a following of over 29,000 is unbelievable – what a day it is going to be!

“Having won the competition in my first season as a coach with Peterborough last season, I know at first-hand what a great day it will be. Hopefully it will be a fitting way to see the trophy handed over to Walsall.

“It will be a tough test because Bristol City are a strong side. That said, if Walsall can play the football that they are capable of, stay tight at the back and attack with pace, they will hurt them.

“I know that Dean will have the team well prepared and set up correctly. From my experience of seeing Bristol City this season, they tend to leave plenty of gaps, so that is something which can be exploited.

“Before last season’s Final, we debated whether to treat the build-up just like a normal game, but it’s not just another game. It’s a massive experience and the players need to embrace it and enjoy it for what it is – a Wembley Cup Final.

“Once that whistle goes, they are there to do a job. Wembley is an inspirational place; I never had the opportunity to play there myself but winning there last season was special.

“The memory will stay with the players forever. I still remember the Millennium Stadium in 2001 as if it was yesterday. No-one can ever take away what we achieved that day and I still talk about it regularly all these years later.

“It’s going to be the same for the current crop of players. As I say, I would give anything to be out there playing, but I’ll be giving my all in the Press Box for Saddlers Player.”

The Saddlers’ Media Team for the day will be headed by Andrew Poole, who has worked for the club for the past 17 years. He will be joined by Dale Moon, who joined the media department this season having been part of the Walsall FC youth team as a teenager.

They will be supported by Jon Sidaway, who has assisted the club over recent seasons, and well-respected local journalist, Brian Halford, who has covered The Saddlers for many years.
Throughout the match, our Saddlers Player commentators will be able to interact with supporters and read out any messages or comments on air! Simply text 07760 855 668 with your message/comment plus your name. Texts are charged at the standard rate.
