WEMBLEY: GAFFER'S VERDICT

22 March 2015

Smith on Wembley defeat...

SADDLERS’ boss, Dean Smith, has reflected upon our 2-0 defeat at the hands of Bristol City in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final at Wembley.

“I’m disappointed,” he said. “We didn’t perform to the level we are capable of and our use of the ball was not as good as theirs.

“We didn’t really get started in the opening ten or 15 minutes and when we did, our final ball wasn’t quite there.

“We needed that bit of momentum; I felt that had we scored a goal at any time if would have given us that lift that we were searching for.

“It was a special occasion and I wanted us to embrace it. In the end we just came up short against the Champions-elect.

“I have to say that the fans were brilliant. It was great to see so many of them there to support us and I am proud of what this club has achieved, even though we couldn’t get the result that we were looking for.

“We’re building and we’ll move on from this. The players will learn from the experience and it’s part of a learning curve.

“We will pick ourselves up, dust ourselves down and be ready to go again for the next game.”
