SADDLERS GIVEN 1933 TRAINING BALL

10 June 2015

Kind donation from the family of Harry Wait...

WE’VE had an exciting recent addition to our memorabilia from the past after a training ball used on that special day in January 1933 when Walsall caused one of the greatest FA Cup shocks of all time by defeating Arsenal, was donated to the club.

The actual match ball used in that famous 2-0 victory over one of the best club sides in the World at the time is on display at Walsall Leather Museum, but we will be finding a suitable home here at Banks’s Stadium for the training ball, which was kindly given to us by the family of Harry Wait.

The legendary Wait is a long-serving goalkeeper who spent almost four decades with the club in a variety of roles, during which time he became the oldest player to turn out for us in a senior game at the age of 44 in 1936. He was trainer on the day that we shot down The Gunners.
