Emerging midfielder putting the work in...

IT MAY only be the beginning of June, but emerging midfield man, Reece Flanagan has been back at the Training Ground this week to take part in a summer maintenance session.

The players have all been given specific maintenance programmes to follow whilst they are away from the club, with further group sessions arranged at various intervals throughout the month.

“It’s good to keep ticking over and I know that the work we do now will help us be ready for the start of pre-season training,” said the 20 year-old who figured 18 times last season having made his senior debut at Leyton Orient in August. “The maintenance programme helps our general fitness levels and I have also been making regular visits to the gym.

“But it’s good to also be able to come back to the club amongst the other lads because there is always that extra competitive edge, which naturally makes you work even harder than when you are on your own.”

The youth team product understands that a big season lies ahead as he looks to realise his undoubted potential and establish himself in the engine room of the side.

“The key for me is to have a good pre-season,” he added. “To do that I know that it is important to start putting the work in now.

“I want to show in training and matches that I am worthy of a starting place. The experience of breaking into the team last season will stand me in good stead; it has whetted my appetite and given me the confidence to know what to expect and the kind of level I need to be at.

“It’s going to be a big season for me, but I am looking forward to it.”
