EL OF A TEST FOR ROM

9 June 2015

Sawyers focussed on World Cup business...

THE SEASON may be over for most, but Romaine Sawyers has important World Cup qualification business on his mind this week as St. Kitts-Nevis prepares to face El Salvador over two legs in the next round of their qualification process.

It’s going to be a tough two-legged test against opponents who are ranked 84th in the World, but Sawyers is looking forward to the challenge.

“It’s going to be a great experience,” he said without hesitation. “This will be the biggest International test to date for me and I am really looking forward to it.

“I haven’t done much research on El Salvador myself but they are ranked higher than any other country I have faced, so it speaks volumes about the competition we will face.

“We’ve got a training camp in Mexico this week where we’ll go through all of the pre-match preparation and analysis.

“Richard O’Kelly tells me that El Salvador is one of the highest places above sea level in the World, so that will make the second leg a whole new experience for me.

“If we are to be successful, it’s a hectic schedule. There are further qualifying rounds to come before we reach the group stage, which gets underway in November.

“Hopefully we can continue to make progress. Being involved in International football and sampling the different styles and cultures certainly adds to the learning process.

“It can only benefit me as a player and as a person both on and off-the-field.”

St. Kitts-Nevis play host to El Salvador on June 11th before the return away leg takes place on June 16th.

We wish Romaine and his team-mates all the very best.
