Cutler happy to have Etheridge here...

GOALKEEPING Coach, Neil Cutler, is relishing the opportunity to work with new arrival, Neil Etheridge, a player that he has been monitoring for some time.

The 25 year-old Philippines International put pen-to-paper on a two-year deal here at Banks’s Stadium on Thursday having previously served the likes of Fulham, Oldham Athletic and Charlton Athletic.

“Neil is a player that I have been watching for a while,” admitted Cutler. “I’ve kept close tabs on his career and have actually been speaking to him for a few years.

“He is a nice big lad, athletic and fits the bill in terms of age and his desire to get better.

“He has the will to push on, which is very important for us. He could have gone to clubs at higher levels than us and sat on the bench, but he has come here because he wants to play games.

“It’s time for him to start playing regularly; he’s a full International who has played in big games and in front of big crowds so he does have good experience in that respect.

“He’s done well internationally, but he needs regular League football, there is no doubt about that.

“He’ll be playing for his place with Craig MacGillivray. He has no right to play, he has to earn the right and he is well aware of that.

“Craig has come back for pre-season and really looks at it. It’s going to be a good battle between the both of them; we have got a really high standard of goalkeeper at the club this year through all levels.”
