DWIGHT YORKE SPORTING DINNER

9 July 2015

Saddlers announce December Sporting Dinner with former Villa and Manchester United ace...

WE ARE delighted to announce that Dwight Yorke will be the celebrity speaker at our Sporting Dinner here at Banks’s Stadium on Thursday, December 10th 2015.

He is sure to have a wealth of great stories from his exploits both on and off-the-field.

Yorke will be joined by comedian, Gary Marshall, for what promises to be a great night. Tickets are on sale now, at £37.50 each to include a delicious meal, from the Banks’s Stadium Ticket Office or by calling 01922-651 414/416.

It was just down the road at Aston Villa where Yorke first came to the fore after being discovered by Graham Taylor.

After making his top-flight debut in March 1990, he went on to become an integral part of the Villa team for the next eight years, helping the club lift the League Cup in 1996 and being a regular on the scoresheet along the way.

His all-action performances prompted a controversial move to Manchester United and in his first season at Old Trafford, he played his part in the club achieving a unique treble as he struck up a lethal partnership with Andrew Cole.

The goals continued to flow in 1999/2000 as United retained the Title, but his colourful lifestyle off-the-field led to his relationship with Sir Alex Ferguson becoming strained and he eventually moved on to Blackburn Rovers, where he spent two years.

His next port of call was Birmingham City in 2004, where he had a brief spell before moving Down Under with Sydney FC.

He returned to these shores with Sunderland, who were then under the guidance of his former United team-mate, Roy Keane, in August 2006 having that summer skippered Trinidad & Tobago in the World Cup Finals.

The curtain came down on his playing career at the end of the 2008/09 campaign and he went on to work as a pundit for Sky Sports.

One of the game’s genuine characters, he has some cracking stories to tell and you can hear them all when he joins us here at Banks’s Stadium in the build-up to Christmas.
