SADDLERS ACCEPT FAIR PLAY PRIZE

12 January 2015

FA Chairman on hand to make cheque presentation...

WE WERE delighted to welcome FA Chairman, Greg Dyke, to Banks’s Stadium on Saturday as he presented our cheque for winning the 2013/14 League One FA Respect & Fair Play Award.

“The FA’s Respect programme has helped achieve a real improvement in behaviour on and off the pitch from the top of the professional game through to the grassroots,” said Mr. Dyke. “English football is built upon a competitive spirit that makes it the envy of the world. The Respect Fair Play Award recognises the finest examples among clubs in the professional ranks that balance the combative intensity of 90 minutes on the field with the demonstration of Respect for fair play and sportsmanship.

“Walsall deserves huge credit for achieving this over the past season - which is why I am delighted to be on hand to congratulate them.”

Walsall FC Chief Executive, Stefan Gamble, added:  “As a club we are extremely proud to have won the 2013/14 FA Respect & Fair Play Award for League One.

“Since its inception back at the start of the 2008/2009 season, The FA’s Respect Programme has gone from strength-to-strength at all levels of the game, with last season’s disciplinary figures overall showing a huge improvement on the previous year across the country.

“I am very proud that as a club, Walsall FC are certainly doing our part in this extremely worthwhile initiative and the financial reward that we gained from this will be well spent within the infrastructure of the club.”

The Saddlers collected a prize of £10,000.
