POINTS IN MIND FOR PAUL

Downing sets sights on winning result...

HAVING put in a superb performance in our successful Johnstone's Paint Trophy Area Final second leg against Preston North End on Tuesday evening, Paul Downing has points in mind as we return to League duty on Sunday with the visit of Gillingham (kick-off 6.00pm).

"It's important that we concentrate on getting back into winning ways at home," said the talented central defender. "It was a great boost to get to Wembley earlier this week, but it was also nice that we were able to keep clean sheets in both legs against what is a strong Preston side.

"I was pleased with my own performance and it was nice to play my part in helping the club make history, but my focus now is on maintaining those standards and helping us get the three points against Gillingham.

"They've got some talented individuals in their side and their fortunes have picked up a bit in recent games. It's vital that we start to pick up points at home again to go with our performances on the road.

"We have to keep this momentum going and move up the table. Anyone can beat each other in this League and we have a lot of games coming up.

"We have to take each game on its merits and work hard in order to take the positives from the situation that we currently find ourselves in.

"It's important that we concentrate on our performances as individuals and as a team to ensure that we are challenging up at the right end of the table.

"Our record against the top teams has been good so far; we have proved what we are capable of and hopefully we can get the result that we all want against Gillingham.

"It will be strange playing on a Sunday evening. Hopefully the fans will turn out and give us the backing because it really does help drive us on."
