Youngsters slip to defeat at Wigan Athletic...

THE SADDLERS' youth team put in an impressive display at Wigan Athletic but came away with nothing to show for our efforts in a 1-0 defeat.

"It was one of those games where we did everything but score," admitted Academy Manager, Neil Woods. "It was a very even first half with both 'keepers making a good save each.

"Our hosts were able to take the lead with a goal from a throw-in, which was disappointing, but at the break I was pleased with the way we were going about things.

"We were terrific in the second half. We controlled the game playing some excellent football and creating numerous opportunities which, sadly, we were unable to capitalise upon.

"It ended up being a frustrating afternoon for us and even the Wigan staff admitted afterwards that we were much the better side.

"Our application and endeavour is good, we just need to be able to find an end product."

WALSALL: Jezeph, J. Smith (Roberts), Cockerill, Sangha, K. Rowley, Probert, Kouhyar (Oliver), Shakespeare, R. Reid (Pooni), L. Rowley, Delaney. Sub not used: R. Smith.
