SECOND-STRING BATTLE OUT WIN

18 February 2015

O'Kelly pleased with afternoon's work...

THE SADDLERS' second-string have battled out a 2-1 victory at Shrewsbury Town in our first taste of Final Third Development League action since the start of December.

"It was a good performance and an excellent game of football," he reserve team boss, Richard O'Kelly. "They were younger than us, but their attitude was fantastic and it was just the kind of game we needed.

"The attitude of our lads was very pleasing; we had to work hard and show different sides of our game against organised and competitive opponents.

"I thought that Rico Henry looked lively and bright on the ball, particularly in the first half, whilst Reece Flanagan got both of our goals and did well. We had David Atkinson in on trial and he did what we expected.

"It was a good team performance, just the sort of challenge our boys were looking for. The tackles were flying in and from a tactical and technical point of view it was a good exercise.

"Both teams deserve credit for this."

WALSALL: MacGillivray, Atkinson, Henry, K. Rowley (Probert 70), Preston, Kinsella, Delaney, Flanagan, Murphy, L. Rowley (Shakespeare 70), Bakayoko. Subs not used: Kouhyar, Jezeph.
