HOME COMFORTS FOR O'CONNOR

11 February 2015

Defender opens his scoring account as Saddlers get back to winning ways at home...

JAMES O'Connor celebrated his first goal for The Saddlers but insisted that the three points we secured against Rochdale was the most important thing.

"It was a nice bonus to score, but we needed that win, no matter how it came," he said. "Our home form has not been great recently and we have felt that we have missed some opportunities, so to get the three points on Tuesday was the main thing.

"There were a lot of positives to come out of the game, both in the first half and after the break. We showed plenty of character when it went to 3-2 and it's good to be able to learn lessons whilst still winning the game.

"It was a case of digging in there and showing character; we scored three good goals and made a really bright start.

"From a personal point of view, it's always nice to get on the scoresheet. It's certainly been a while and its always a nice feeling to see the ball ht the back of the net."

The victory over Rochdale made it two wins in a row for the first time since the end of October/start of November and saw us climb into the top ten.

"This League is crazy," added O'Connor. "Virtually any team could win three or four games and be right up there in the play-off places.

"For us that's two wins on the bounce and we'll be looking to make it three against Port Vale on Saturday.

"Vale will be tough opponents, we know that, but hopefully we have turned the corner at home now and we can build some momentum.

"You just can't under-estimate how big back-to-back wins are in this League and we're fully-focussed nowon the next challenge."
