BEN EYES THREE ON THE BOUNCE

Purkiss keen to extend unbeaten run...

THE SADDLERS go into Saturday’s local derby with Port Vale on the back of a five-match unbeaten run.

Having won our last two games, the prospect of three wins in a row is a tantalising one for full-back Ben Purkiss, who has been in impressive form in recent weeks.

“We’re at home and on the back of a strong performance in our last game here, especially in the first half,” said the always-assured Purkiss. “We’ll go out there determined to get the win; there will be a decent crowd and a good atmosphere, so it’s one we’re looking forward to.

“Hopefully we can raise the tempo early on and give the fans something to shout about. Our last two games have seen us score early, so the hope is that we can do the same on Saturday.

“We’ve seen what back-to-back wins can do in this League. All of a sudden we are in touching distance of that leading pack, but we have to maintain that now and look to get three wins on the spin.

“We were very clinical early on in our last game; we made it difficult for ourselves in the second half, but we will learn from it.

“From a personal point of view, I feel fit and strong and, whilst it isn’t down to me to comment on my own performances, I’m looking to continue making a solid contribution both in a defensive and attacking sense.”
