FLEETWOOD VS. WALSALL: MATCH POSTPONED

12 December 2015

Game off this afternoon...

The Saddlers’ match at Fleetwood Town this afternoon has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

After heavy rain on the Fylde Coast, referee Scott Duncan deemed the surface unplayable and made the decision to postpone the match at 1.30pm.

Duncan said: “There’s a lot of standing water on the pitch which is dangerous and we’ve got to look at the game as a spectacle.

“If we do play a game in conditions like these you could end up losing two or three fixtures in the future.

“After consultation with the groundsman it’s clearly obvious that it hasn’t stopped raining here.”

Walsall caretaker manager Jon Whitney was frustrated with the postponement but agreed with the referee’s decision.

“It’s frustrating as we’ve planned for it all week,” he said.

“All my staff came down this morning to put the prep out and it was fine then.

“There was a tiny puddle then and their groundsman said he hadn’t had a game off for six years. He was probably tempting fate!

“But it’s the correct decision for the safety of the players and both teams like to play good football so from an entertainment point of view, you wouldn’t get that today.

“It was the right decision but what we’ve got to do now is put this one to bed and work to Chesterfield now.”
