CUTLER HAILS ETHERIDGE'S IMPACT

12 December 2015

Keeper has impressed this season...

Goalkeeping coach Neil Cutler has hailed the impact of first-choice stopper Neil Etheridge since his arrival at the Banks’s.

Philippines international Etheridge has been an assured presence between the posts this term, keeping six clean sheets in 21 outings.

And Cutler, our joint-caretaker manager, has paid tribute to the Saddlers’ number one.

“He’s done really well,” said Cutler.

“He’s offered us something different to what Richard O’Donnell offered us in the past. Rich did really well for us but Neil brings us a different side.

“He’s bold, he’s brave and he comes for things that no other keeper in this league comes for. He’s got a really good personality and is a confident boy.

“He’s progressing all the time because he wants to get better.

“He’s not even played a full season yet so he’s not got that experience, although he’s played a lot of games internationally.

“Now he needs to work on being consistent, playing games and getting some seasons under his belt.

“As you can see, he’s getting better from playing games.

“He’s becoming more of a voice in the group and is really quick, and if you speak to those boys in front of him they’ll tell you he’s a big player and a big influence.

“Neil is a big part of why we’ve done so well this season.”

Etheridge and co are back in action this Saturday when Walsall take on Fleetwood Town (kick-off 3.00pm).
