Woods On Season Opener

5 August 2015

Youth Boss looks ahead to new campaign...

HEAD of Academy, Neil Woods, admits he has been surprised by the impressive condition of his players after a successful pre-season.

The Saddlers youth team host Accrington on Saturday in their first game of the new campaign and Woods has paid tribute to the player’s preparation ahead of the match.

“For us, we have a turn over of players every year. The second years either get contracts or get released so we’ve got ten new lads in and they’ve been fantastic.

“They’ve trained really well during pre-season so I’m looking forward to seeing how we adapt to a competitive environment. “

“I’m very pleased with the condition they came back in. They were all given individual training programmes and they’ve obviously followed them and done some extra on top.

“So we’ve been able to work them probably harder than we anticipated and that’s a credit to their attitudes already.

“Accrington are a very honest side. We’re aware of the other teams we face but for us it’s all about what we do.

“We think we’ve got another group of really talented players and if we perform to the levels we have during pre-season then we should give Accrington some problems."
