Smith On Luton Test

1 August 2015

Boss raring to go after pre-season finale…

SADDLERS Boss, Dean Smith, insisted his players are ready for the new season after running out 1-0 winners in our final pre-season encounter.

Tom Bradshaw’s fifth minute strike was enough to seal the win over Luton Town and Smith has now set his sights on our League One opener in a week’s time.

“It was a test for us but that’s exactly the sort of game I wanted leading into the season,” he admitted.

“For 65 minutes we were really good, created lots of chances and caused them problems.

“Then we got loose on the ball and invited them into the game a lot more.”

Spanish trialist, Adrian Pazo, was named alongside Matt Preston and Paul Downing in a three-man defence as Smith continued to explore his options.

“I thought again we looked comfortable as a three,” he added. “As an attacking outfit we looked dangerous, kept the ball well and got bodies forward.

“It just shows what an attacking system it can be as long as the players believe in it.

“We had to change it towards the end with Matt Preston going off injured but in general we look comfortable with it.

“We look fit enough now and that’s the idea of pre season.

“I’m really looking forward to the new campaign.

“Its what we have been working towards and hopefully Matt Preston has just taken a knock and I’ll have a fully fit squad to choose from on Saturday.”

The Saddlers entertain Oldham Athletic on Saturday 8th August in our first League One game of the 2015/16 season.
