Demetriou's Delight

Full-back finds his 'buzz' again...

SADDLERS new boy, Jason Demetriou insists he has rediscovered his love for football since moving to the club.

The all-action full back was deployed as part of a five-man midfield against Luton Town on Saturday and was happy with the team’s performance.

“I though we done really well,” he smiled. “We’ve started working with this new system and we’ve adapted really well to it.

“We had a lot of options on the ball, a lot of attacking play and I’m really enjoying my football again.

“Even these games are so exciting for me. I know they’re friendlies but it’s the buzz of English football.”

The 27-year old has spent the last five seasons in Cyprus and jumped at the chance to reunite with Dean Smith after the pair spent time at Leyton Orient together.

“I enjoyed my time there but now I’m back here and the games come so quickly, the tempo in training is always high, I think I made the right decision,” he added.

“The games didn’t mean as much as they should do and that’s the point when I knew I had to get my head back on the football.

“And for a new lad coming into the club it’s been great. There’s a good group of players here, everyone looks after each other and we work hard.

“There’s a core of the squad who have been here with the Manager and Richard [O’Kelly] for a few seasons now and some young lads chomping at the bit.

“It’s been a good pre-season, nice to finish with a win and we’re ready for Oldham on Saturday.”
