YOUNGSTERS BOW OUT

Youthful Saddlers slip at Sutton Coldfield...

A VERY youthful Saddlers' side bowed out of the Birmingham Senior Cup on Wednesday evening with a 5-3 defeat at Sutton Coldfield Town.

"Credit to our hosts, they were extremely well-organised throughout and provided our youngsters with a stern test," admitted Academy Manager, Neil Woods. "Sutton Coldfield started the game well and took the lead on the quarter-hour mark.

"Their advantage was doubled five minutes later and it gave us a real mountain to climb, but credit to our boys because they kept at it and got our reward when Kieron Morris reduced the arrears and then Romario Reid equalised just before the interval.

"In fact that spell in the lead up to the break was our best of the game and at that stage we looked a threat.

"But Sutton Coldfield came out for the second half with renewed determination and were able to regain their advantage.

"Our youngsters battled on, though, and had a real go but we conceded some poor goals and it cost us.

"We eventually went down by five goals to three, with Keiron notching his second goal of the evening. It was a hard work-out for us and with several 16 year-olds on the field, it was physically tough against a well-organised side who are doing well in their League."

WALSALL: MacGillivray, K. Rowley, Preston, Probert, Henry, Kinsella, Delaney, Morris, Sangha, Reid, Shakespeare. Subs not used: J. Smith, R. Smith, Oliver, Lewis, Pooni, Jezeph.
