A WIN IN WALES

29 October 2014

Second-string run out 2-1 winners...

THE SADDLERS' second-string ran out worthy 2-1 winners at Wrexham in the Final Third Development League West Division.

"We were excellent in the first half," said reserve team boss, Richard O'Kelly. "The work-rate and reactions by the lads on what was a bumpy pitch and on a damp day, was very good.

"We displayed the right attitude right from the word go and we got our reward with two well-worked goals during the opening period as Mathieu Manset and then Ashley Grimes got onto the scoresheet.

"Our hosts came at us for the opening ten minutes or so of the second half, but we managed to steady the ship and although they were able to pull a goal back, we saw the game out to pick up a deserved win.

"It was nice to be able to get game time into the likes of Mal Benning, Reece Flanagan and, of course, Sam Mantom and all in all it was a good day's work for us with everyone making a contribution."

WALSALL: MacGillivray, Kinsella, Benning, Preston, Holden, Flanagan, Clifford, Mantom (Heath 65), Manset (Reid 65), Grimes, Morris: Sub not used: Murphy.
