SADDLERS PROGRESS IN JPT

12 November 2014

Smith a happy man...

SADDLERS' boss, Dean Smith, was a happy man after seeing his side progress into the Northern Area semi-final of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy following a deserved 1-0 victory over Sheffield United.

"I'm really pleased," he said with a smile. "It was a deserved win for us and another good performance.

"I felt that defensively we did really well, with Paul Downing and James Chambers solid, whilst Adam Chambers was excellent in the middle of the park.

"This is an opportunity for us to win a cup competition; we've had two ties so far in this and come through them both, so we shouldn't fear anyone. That said, there are some good sides left in the competition.

"We created some decent chances out there and I was pleased with the goal that won it for us.

"We're starting to build some momentum now and I've got a squad who are competing. There are options all over the pitch and the players are determined to continue this run and play their part.

"It's another tough game on Saturday, but one that we are looking forward to."

Tom Bradshaw was withdrawn at half-time with a tight hamstring. He will be assessed in the build-up to Saturday's game.
