BANKS’S Stadium will play host to a rare Sporting Dinner featuring the legend that is Jimmy Greaves on Thursday, December 4th.The World Cup-winner and goalscorer supreme is a replacement for Howard Webb whose new role as Technical Director of the Official Referee’s Association prevents him from taking part in such events.
It’s certainly an inspired substitution. Greaves is one of the greats of English football; he is England’s third-highest International goalscorer with 44 goals to his name and the top scorer in the history of English top-flight football with a fantastic 357 strikes. Oh, and he has scored more hat-tricks for England (six) than anyone else.
A colourful character, with plenty of stories to tell from a long career in the game both on and off-the-pitch, it promises to be a great night!
