Last-gasp free-kick takes Goal of the Season accolade...

THE GOAL of the Season Award was a close-run thing. A total of ten goals were short-listed and voted for by the fans, with Andy Taylor's dramatic stoppage time free-kick at Colchester eventually claiming the prize as it narrowly beat Milan Lalkovic's effort against Carlisle United.

Taylor's perfectly-placed free-kick rescued a point for The Saddlers with the last kick of the game in a match that we dominated for long periods.

"That was another game in which we were easily the better side," recalled Taylor of the October trip to Essex. "We created all the chances but found ourselves a goal down going into added time at the end.

"I was conscious of the fact that it would be a long trip back home with no points to show for our efforts when the free-kick was awarded in a decent position, 25 yards or so out.

"I knew that it was going to be pretty much the last kick of the game, so I had to get it right and thankfully I positioned it just right beyond the reach of the 'keeper.

"It was nice to see the ball hit the back of the net and it was a huge relief. It's occasions like that which make all the practice worthwhile."
