PURKISS STAYS STRONG

30 May 2014

Full-back a big fan of summer strength and conditioning work...

BEN Purkiss is a big fan of the summer maintenance programme laid down by Jon Whitney to ensure that the players return to pre-season training with a high level of fitness.

Each player is given an increasing schedule of strength and conditioning work to be carried out during the weeks that they are away from the club with the ultimate aim being that they are able to hit the ground running when pre-season training gets underway at the start of July.

“’Whitters’ is always at the forefront of what’s going on in the world of strength and conditioning,” said Purkiss, who recently signed a new one-year deal. “He does an awful lot of research and is always coming up with new ideas to keep things interesting and current.

“I feel that I have responded well to the programmes that he has adopted for me in the past and it’s a similar story this time around.

“The work that we do now helps us come back with high fitness levels at the start of pre-season. It was really noticeable last year and stands us in good stead.

“Of course, it’s about being disciplined and carrying out the work off your own bat, but the lads realise the benefits.”
