HONOUR FOR SAM

5 May 2014

Midfield man takes Player of the Season crown...

MIDFIELD maestro, Sam Mantom, has been named as the Walsall FC Player of the Season for 2013/14.

He fought off competition from Adam Chambers, who came second for the second season in succession, and ever-present goalkeeper, Richard O'Donnell, who took third place.

It's been a consistent campaign for Mantom who chalked up 48 appearances and weighed in with five goals along the way.

"It's an absolute honour to take this award," he said. "There were a lot of strong contenders this year, so I am delighted to win it.

"I have tried to bring consistency to my game and I am really pleased with how things have gone for me. It's been a fantastic season and this tops it off nicely.

"This is a great environment to come into and play. The set-up here is geared towards progression and the staff have really helped to bring the best out of me."

The Young Player of the Season Award went to Mal Benning, whilst Ben Purkiss was Community Player of the Season, Roger Johnson took the Long Service Award, Dave Evans was voted as Fan of the Season, Andy Taylor took the Goal of the Season honour, youngster Liam Kinsella was Apprentice of the Season, Players' Player of the Season went to Richard O'Donnell and Mick Kearns was given the Lifetime Achievement award for over four decades of sterling service to the club.
