Saddlers overcome Wrexham challenge...

THE SADDLERS' youth team have run out 3-1 winners over Wrexham at a windy Ray Hall Lane.

"On a difficult, lively pitch and with a strong wind, both teams found it hard to play quality football," said Academy Manager, Neil Woods. "We managed to get our noses in front when a corner saw Amadou Bakayoko's effort saved only for Alex Reid to follow up and find the net.

"Our visitors levelled matters just before the break and going in at half-time, that was a pretty fair reflection of how the game had panned out.

"With three under-16 players in our starting line-up and another two more entering the action during the second half, I was pleased with our application and Reid made it 2-1 with his second goal of the game as he latched onto a clearance from Richard Jones.

"The win was sealed thanks to a close range header from Kyle Rowley.

"It was good to see some of the new intake for next season in action and the way in which they linked up with the current first-year lads, so there was plenty to take from the game."

WALSALL: Jones, Sam (Smith), Lewis, Kinsella, K. Rowley, Dallison, L. Rowley (Pooni), Sangha, Bakayoko, Shakespeare (R. Reid), A. Reid. Subs not used: Probert, Jezeph.
