Youth team win at Shrewsbury...

THE SADDLERS' youth team ran out 2-1 winners against Shrewsbury Town.

"We started the game brightly without having enough control of the game," said Academy Manager, Neil Woods. "We turned over possession too much and didn't control the game for long enough periods.

"It was a generally disappointing first half as we went in at the break goalless.

"We changed our shape and a few things around for the second period and had more control but without having our usual possession.

"We got our noses in front with a good free-kick from Wes Rush and within ten minutes we managed to double our advantage when Kyle Rowley powered home a header from a corner.

"We huffed and puffed after that and whilst our work-rate and effort cannot be faulted, we didn't quite reach the standards that I know we are capable of.

"Our hosts pulled a goal back and it set up a nervy final ten minutes, but we were able to hold on and claim the victory."

WALSALL: Jones, Ashmore, Lewis, Kinsella, K. Rowley, Probert, McKenzie (L. Rowley), Delaney (A. Reid), Bakayoko, Rush, Shakespeare (Dallison). Subs not used: Lovett, R. Reid.
