SMITH ON HOME DRAW

12 March 2014

Boss reflects as we share spoils with Crewe thanks to late leveller...

SADDLERS’ boss, Dean Smith, has reflected upon our 1-1 home draw with Crewe Alexandra as a last-minute own goal gave us a share of the spoils.

“We deserved at least a point,” he said. “We kept good possession but didn’t penetrate anywhere near as much as we should have done.

“We know that we’re not scoring enough goals at the moment, but it is a team effort. We have a way in which we want to play, but on this occasion we didn’t create enough chances.

“To win games you have to score goals and to score goals you have to create opportunities and we know that we have to be better than that.

“We’ll keep working hard on the training ground. We have to be quicker in and around the box to open teams up as we did earlier in the season.

“We certainly needed that own goal at the end. The lads looked relieved when it went in and we could have won the game in the end with Milan Lalkovic’s effort which hit the woodwork.

“That’s the way it goes sometimes, but we go to Rotherham, who are on the crest of a wave, on Saturday knowing that we have to be at it.

“We’re looking forward to it; we’re one point closer to the play-off places after both Peterborough and Swindon lost, but we know that we have to start winning games and we will be going all out to do that at the weekend.”
