COVENTRY CITY v WALSALL

THE SADDLERS stepped out for this rearranged clash with Coventry City in determined mood.

An early raid from Walsall saw Febian Brandy do well on the right and his ball into the area found its way to Craig Westcarr whose strike was blocked.

The Saddlers' supporters were in good voice early on and a neat move just past the quarter-hour mark saw Nicky Featherstone find Febian Brandy who fed James Chambers and his back across was hit goalwards by Westcarr only for Joe Murphy to save the deflected effort.

Shortly afterwards, with 22 minutes on the clock, the home side had the lead when Callum Wilson broke through the middle and slotted home beyond O'Donnell.

An inviting ball in from the left by Mal Benning was fired over, under pressure, at the far post by Brandy.

There was a booking for Adam Chambers for a foul before a fine reflex save right on the stroke of half-time saw O'Donnell tip the ball over following an Andy Butler slice.

HALF-TIME: Coventry City 1 Walsall 0

The Saddlers got back on level terms when Mal Benning was denied by former Saddlers' loanee Joe Murphy who then blocks Brandy's follow-up only for Benning to guide the ball home for 1-1 with 53 minutes on the clock.

A late challenge from Featherstone saw him booked, but it was Walsall who had the bit between our teeth at this stage.

A great turn from Brandy saw him feed Sawyers who effort was straight down the throat of Murphy.

The pace of Brandy was causing problems for the home side and he won another free-kick on the edge of the area which was curled in dangerously but gathered by Murphy.

There was a yellow card for James Chambers as the resulting free-kick on the left was headed over by Seaborne for The Sky Blues.

After a low effort from Delfouneso was saved by O'Donnell, Blair Adams hit the crossbar before the next raid saw The Saddlers scramble off the line.

There was a double change with ten minutes to go as Michael Ngoo and James Baxendale came on for Westcarr and Lalkovic respectively and Ngoo was soon in action as he headed a corner over.

The home side took the lead when a pacy break on the right ends with the ball played in to Delfouneso who fired home off the underside of the crossbar.

Late change as Troy Hewitt replaced Brandy.

There was a fantastic triple save from Murphy to deny The Saddlers in stoppage time as he saved from Sawyers, Ngoo and Baxendale.

FULL-TIME: Coventry City 2 Walsall 1
