BITTER-SWEET FOR BENNING

6 March 2014

First goal for full-back but Saddlers come home with nothing...

IT WAS a bitter-sweet occasion for Mal Benning as the emerging full-back notched his first-ever senior goal but saw us slip to defeat against Coventry City.

“I was very happy to get the goal, but disappointed with the result and my part in their second goal,” he admitted. “You have to take the rough with the smooth and I will learn from that and move on from here.

“As soon as we got the goal I felt that there was only one team going to win it. We created the better chances but couldn’t make them count. Their ‘keeper made a fantastic triple save right at the end to deny us a point. I should have lifted the ball a bit higher with my chance.

“There is still much for me to learn but I am feeling comfortable now and feel that I am building up an understanding with Milan Lalkovic in front of me.

“No-one can write us off; we’re still very much in the mix and will stick together as a team. Our performances have been good and it’s only a matter of time before the results start to come again.

“We have a big game to look forward to on Saturday now. There will be a big crowd and a great atmosphere, so what better place to get back into winning ways?”
