BAX READY FOR THE CHALLENGE

3 March 2014

Lively display from Baxendale...

JAMES Baxendale made a lively second half appearance at Preston and almost scored for the second season in succession at Deepdale as his late effort was well saved by the home ‘keeper.

“We went for it after we were reduced to ten men and were the most likely team at the end,” he said. “I was pleased with the spirit and the way in which we had a go.

“I had a chance towards the end when I hit the ball cleanly only for the ‘keeper to get across and make the save. It was a similar chance to the one that I scored from here last season.

“The result was obviously disappointing but we will take the positives.”

The sending off of Sam Mantom proved to be a controversial moment.

“For me it was a 50/50 tackle,” added Baxendale. “Both lads are honest and went for the ball fairly. It was certainly a debatable red card.

“Before that Sam had added another goal to his tally. He’s popping up in some good areas at the moment and is adding goals to his game.

“We’re still in and around the play-off places and we know that anything can happen at this stage of the season in terms of results.

“We have to be ready to take advantage if and when the teams above us have their blip.

“I felt that we finished strongly at Preston and hopefully we can take that into the next game. You can be sure that in these final games we are going to be giving it a right good go.

“The determination and spirit is there and we are ready for the challenge.”
