SADDLERS SIGN HIGHLY-RATED 'KEEPER

13 June 2014

MacGillivray opts for Walsall...

THE SADDLERS have fought off plenty of competition to secure the signing of highly-rated goalkeeper, Craig MacGillivray, from Harrogate Town.

The 21 year-old moves to Banks’s Stadium on an initial one-year deal after a compensation package was agreed with his former club.

“Craig is one that we have had our eye on for some time now,” said a delighted Dean Smith. “We’ve received plenty of glowing reports on him from various sources so we decided to get in there early and broker a deal with Harrogate Town.

“He’s a bright, young lad who has played a number of first-team games at Conference North level and has the pedigree to really challenge for a first-team place here.

“He’s the right age and has all the attributes that we are looking for. It’s a one-year deal initially, but the opportunity is there for him to show what he can do and extend that.

“We thank Harrogate Town for the way in which they conducted themselves during the negotiation process and we look forward to working closely with Craig and helping him fulfill his undoubted potential.”

MacGillivray joined Harrogate Town from Stalybridge Celtic in August 2012 having previously served Harrogate Railway Athletic.

His reputation has continued to grow during his time with the Conference North outfit with a number of League clubs vying for his services.
