PROGRESS FOR MANTOM

5 June 2014

Midfield man pleased with his progress...

MIDFIELD man, Sam Mantom, is delighted with the progress that he is making with The Saddlers.

The 22 year-old joined the club from West Bromwich Albion, initially on loan in March 2012, and has made fast-approaching 100 senior appearances since then.

“I’ve come on so much as a player and as a person since I have been here,” he said. “I want to become that leader that Albion felt I couldn’t be.

“I know that I have to add more goals to my game, but I feel that I am improving all of the time and want to continue playing well to help the team push on.

“Walsall FC need and want to be in The Championship and I can see no reason why we can’t achieve that.

“There is a good core of players here and the Gaffer knows what he wants to do in order to strengthen us.

“Yes, we’ve lost some big characters, but the Gaffer has been in this situation before and did well then and I have every faith in him being able to identify the right players to help us move forward.

“The opportunity is also there for some of the emerging lads like Reece Flanagan to really stake their claims.

“As I say, the Gaffer knows what is required and our aim has to be to make the play-offs and take things from there.

“League One will be tough even though we’ve lost a few big games, but we relish the challenge and I can’t wait for the new season to come around.”
