Emerging wide-man ready to make an impact...HAVING signed a new deal recently, emerging wide-man, Kieron Morris, knows that an important pre-season lies ahead as he looks to stake his claim for a regular place in the team.
The 20 year-old youth team product had a brief taste of first-team action last term with a couple of substitute outings at Stoke City in the Capital One Cup and Carlisle United before making his first senior start in the final game of the campaign against Colchester United.
“I’m really pleased to have been handed a deal,” said the skilful left winger. “I felt that I gave a good account of myself towards the end of last season; in the game at Carlisle I came on for the final 15 minutes and made an assist for our goal and then I dealt with my first start well and made a contribution against Colchester.
“I had been waiting for my chance all season, so I had to be patient, but I’d like to think that I made an impression and feel confident that I can do it on a more regular basis.
“This is going to be a crucial pre-season for me, there is no doubt about that. I’ve got to really prove myself by working hard in training and then doing the business in the matches.
“I want to be able to catch the manager’s eye because there are places up for grabs and I want one of them.”
Morris is one of the players who is benefitting greatly from Jon Whitney’s summer strength and conditioning work.
“I’ve done all the runs and followed my schedule,” he added. “I came into the Training Ground the other day and ‘Whitters’ was pleased with how me and the other young lads were responding to the work.
“I can really feel the benefits of it and it can only help me get stronger and be able to hit the ground running when we return to pre-season training at the start of July.
“I am determined to push on and be in and around the team during the season ahead. Getting that first start has whetted my appetite and I feel confident that I can make an impression.”
