Legends feature recognised by Programme Monthly & Football Collectable...
THE SADDLERS’ Matchday Programme has come runner-up in the League One Best Feature award, an accolade handed out by the well-respected Programme Monthly & Football Collectable Magazine.They liked the concept of dedicating each issue of the programme to a different Walsall FC Legend during our 125th Anniversary season last term.
“It’s a good idea well done,” they said. “We particularly liked the ‘Key Games’ feature which gives an account of the chosen players’ debut, final game, most memorable game and what the club were doing on the day they were born.
“We really liked the whole concept and the coverage given to the particular legend both in words and pictures.”
Matchday Programme Editor, Andrew Poole, was delighted with the recognition.
“As it was a special season for the club, with it being our 125th Anniversary, I wanted to do something a bit different,” he said. “We’ve had some fantastic players who have given sterling service to the club over the years and I was keen to recognise that.
“At the start of the season I selected legends to represent each era, be they players or managers. We dedicated at least six pages to them and that included an interview with the chosen player or, if they are no longer with us, comments from former team-mates.
“It worked really well and sat nicely alongside the other features that celebrated the past, present and future of the club.
“I am pleased that Programme Monthly & Football Collectable recognised us in this way.
"Work is well underway to create something completely different yet equally as special for the campaign ahead. I have various ideas for new features, whilst the design will be given a complete makeover.
"I am pleased to say that the cover price will remain at £3 for the new season."
