CAPTAIN CHAMBERS

30 July 2014

Midfield man given captain's armband...

EXPERIENCED midfield man, Adam Chambers, has been named as The Saddlers' captain for the 2014/15 season, with Paul Downing taking on the role of vice-captain.

"I'm extremely proud," said Chambers, who joined the club in the summer of 2011 following a long association with Leyton Orient. "It's a real honour for me, particularly as there were a number of worthy candidates for the role.

"As one of the senior players I always try to do my bit for the team and help the younger lads, but I am relishing this added responsibility. We've got a talented group here and it's up to people like myself to help push us on.

"The new lads that have come in over the summer have settled in really well. This is a good environment to come into and as a group we are looking forward to what the season holds in store.

"League One is a tough division where everyone is capable of beating each other. Hopefully we can find that level of consistency which will serve us well.

"We know that we will go into games well-prepared and the aim is to be able to stamp our style on things."

Chambers is looking forward to leading the team out tonight as we entertain Premier League new-boys, Leicester City (kick-off 7.30pm).

"It will be nice to be back here on home soil this evening," he added. "I can't wait to lead us out against a side who are heading into the Premier League.

"With the start of the season coming up, it will be a good test for us and gives us the opportunity to put things into practice that we have been working on."
