Smith on his decision to hand midfield man the captain's armband...

ADAM Chambers led The Saddlers out on Wednesday evening for the first time since officially being appointed captain earlier this week.

Manager, Dean Smith, admits that whilst there were a number of worthy candidates, the experienced midfield man has all the right credentials for the job.

"It was a tough decision because we've got some great leaders out there," said Smith. "But I have known Adam for a long time and he knows exactly what I want and expect.

"He leads by example and is as good a professional as you will find. He commands so much respect within the dressing room and I know that he will be an excellent captain for us as we go into the new season."
