Smith on New Year's Day home won...
SADDLERS' boss, Dean Smith, has reflected upon our New Year's Day victory over Sheffield United as we came back from a goal down to win 2-1 with James Chambers notching the winner for his first goal for the club."We were second best for the opening 20 minutes," he admitted. "They came out really well and took the lead with a good goal, which meant that we had to come from behind to win for the first time this season.
"I'm really pleased with the character that we displayed. I had to make some tough decisions with the team selection because we've had a lot of games on heavy pitches, but thankfully they came off for us.
"Sheffield United are a well-organised side who made it hard for us and we had to be at our best in order to get something out of the game.
"I felt that we started the second period well and once we got the penalty, there was only going to be one winner.
"I'm really pleased that James Chambers scored his first goal for the club. Both he and Adam have come through a traumatic time and it was a great move and finish.
"We had to show steeliness to see the game out and get the three points as we start the New Year on a winning note."
