MANTOM THRIVING ON BUSY SCHEDULE

1 January 2014

Midfield man in upbeat mood as we go into 2014...

THIS afternoon's game against Sheffield United will be our fourth in just 11 days.

With the pitches heavy, it has been an energy-sapping time for everyone, none more so than midfield man, Sam Mantom, who has covered a lot of ground during the festive matches.

"It's been a busy time," he said with a wry smile. "This has been my second festive period and I have thoroughly enjoyed the games coming thick and fast, even though my body is feeling it!

"I'm only 21 and I feel that I have come through it well for someone of my age. I wouldn't have it any other way because playing regular, competitive football at a good level and for a good team is all I have ever wanted to do."

Mantom signed permanently for the club a year ago and has since had that deal extended following some excellent displays in the heart of the team.

"I am pleased with the progress that I have made," he added. "There is always room for improvement, and I want to be able to add more goals to my game.

"I felt that I passed the ball well in the last game at Gillingham and had a few shots. It's something that I am working on with the Gaffer and Richard O'Kelly on the training pitch.

"As a team, the next five months are going to be important for us. We find ourselves just four points off the play-offs with plenty of games coming up.

"We know where we want to go and what is expected of us. It's a case of continuing to do the right things and grind out the points."
