FANTASTIC WEEKEND FOR PUNTERS

14 January 2014

Big wins with Sky Bet...

IT WAS a weekend to forget for Sky Bet with results in the Barclays Premier League and the Sky Bet Football League leading to a remarkable few days for punters.

Nine of the 10 best-backed teams won on Saturday, starting with Chelsea's 2-0 win over Hull in the lunchtime kick-off in the Barclays Premier League.

Afternoon victories for Everton, Tottenham and Southampton were great news for accumulator backers and things got even better in the Sky Bet Football League.

Leyton Orient, Brentford, Burnley and Blackburn were all among the most popular selections of the day and duly delivered, leaving the Leeds-based firm running for cover.

Two Sky Bet customers were left celebrating very big wins thanks to Nahki Wells' late debut goal in Huddersfield's 1-0 victory at home to Millwall in the Championship.

One customer scooped £72,000 on a 15-fold accumulator from a £20 stake and a 12-fold accumulator with a total stake of £15 won just over £21,500.

It got even better still for punters with Manchester United beating Swansea 2-0 at Old Trafford in the Saturday evening Premier League kick-off.

Only Cardiff, who suffered a 2-0 defeat to West Ham, were beaten among the hotpots and Sky Bet Head of Football, Paul Wiggins, said: "It's fair to say Saturday was a huge day for punters.

"Looking at the fixtures before kick-off I thought there was a chance we could get a couple of results to go our way but it hasn't worked out like that at all."

In the Sky Bet Football League, Leicester are now the even-money favourites to win the Championship, Brentford head the League One outright market at 5/4 and Chesterfield, second behind Scunthorpe (5/2), are 9/4 to finish on top in League Two.
