YOUTH TEAM HIT LATE ON

25 February 2014

Youngsters on top but fall to late goal...

THE SADDLERS' youth team went down to a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Port Vale despite dominating the game for long periods.

"We started the game well," said Academy Manager, Neil Woods. "We were able to move the ball around well on a pitch that was not as quick as we would have liked.

"We took a deserved lead when Jamie Ashmore crossed well and Amadou Bakayoko was on hand to head home and for the next 25 minutes we were in total control.

"During this period we had all the possession and we really should have added to our lead. However, our visitors were able to equalise right on the stroke of half-time.

"Despite this I was pleased with the quality that we displayed and we were able to continue our form into the second half where we created some half-chances before being hit on the break late on as Port Vale snatched a winner.

"The result was obviously disappointing, but I am pleased with the way in which we are trying to play, although we do need to hurt teams more when we are in control."

WALSALL: Jones, Ashmore, Probert, Kinsella, Garner, Christopherou (K. Rowley), Shakespeare, McKenzie (R. Reid), Bakayoko, Rush, Delaney (A. Reid). Subs not used: Jezeph, L. Rowley.
